Word of mouth marketing defined in modern terms – video

What is word of mouth marketing?

The concept of word of mouth marketing is more than just hoping people will talk about your business, services or product. The above video recently released by the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA) defines word of mouth marketing and gives tips on how to break it down to make sense for your business and although the video is promotional for WOMMA, it is relevant to every business today.

Per the video, the five principles of word of mouth marketing are:

  1. Credible
  2. Respectful
  3. Social
  4. Measurable
  5. Repeatable

In October, WOMMA released an eye opening infographic about how and why word of mouth marketing works today (below) and we noted that “There is a growing school of thought that consumers simply want to connect with the human side of a brand, but with over 3 billion brand mentions in America every day, it stands to reason that brand affinity is nowhere near dead.”
