3 ways to modernize your real estate blog (aka “it’s not 2008 anymore”)

(MARKETING) If you have a real estate blog, the advice you got when you set yourself up (or was set up) has changed dramatically in recent years. Here’s what works in the here and now.

Chances are that your blog is performing well but you’ll probably agree with me when I say: There is still room to improve your blog’s performance.

So what can you do today to see better results? The following will give you three actionable tips to help you improve your game in terms of engagement, conversion and overall success.

These are all proven tactics used by some of the most successful online marketers that you can apply to your own real estate marketing blog.

1. Use high quality visual content

If you’re still publishing text-only blog posts and using generic stock images, you might want to reconsider your game plan.

Did you know that content with relevant images get 94% more views than content without relevant images?

This is not surprising given that 90% of information transmitted to our brains is visual and it turns out that 65% of humans are visual learners.

So, it shouldn’t be a big surprise: we respond more effectively to imagery than plain text. In this case, “we” includes your potential customers, partners and subscribers.

The good news is that there are plenty of free tools available to help you to add custom images, screenshots and other visuals to your blog posts. It doesn’t necessarily mean you need to spend a lot of money (nor time) to add visual interest to your post, just a little bit of effort.

Tools like Canva make it easy to create custom images for your blog posts. Canva is an online tool that offers a vast image library, photo filters, shapes and icons, and hundreds of fonts to help you create engaging visuals. They even include a WordPress plugin.

Also, tools like Venngage can help you create and publish infographics and data visualizations from hundreds of existing templates.

Don’t forget about using simple screen capture plugins. There are plenty of free tools available that allow you to easily capture a screenshot and make annotations to help provide visual support for your post.

2. Convert abandoning visitors

Here is the cold truth: 70% of your visitors will never return to your site. That’s a big number.

Most marketers will have a newsletter subscribe button somewhere on the site, praying they will capture some visits and convert them into subscribers. That’s a good start, but it’s just not enough to move the needle.

If you really want to convert your visitors, you need to offer an incentive and make sure it stands out at the right time.

Luckily, opt-in technology is improving and tools like Bounce Exchange and OptinMonster are very effective in converting visitors that intend to leave your site.

You can use these tools to run behavioral and location based targeting to offer very personalized incentives. Something your static newsletter subscribe button just can’t do.

3. Engage with other bloggers

Do your blog posts have 0 comments? No back links? No mentions by influencers?

There is a reason for that.

The success of your blog highly depends on the relationships you have with other bloggers in your industry. This is an untold secret and most top bloggers can attest to it… being part of a community of top bloggers in your niche can have a direct, positive impact for your own blog.

So, how do you enlist influencers to help promote your content?

First you need to have a clear understanding of who are the top influencers and blogs on topics related to your company. Tools like Buzzsumo can help you quickly analyze content for any topic and find key influencers.

Now you know who they are. But what’s the best way to get the attention of a top influencer?

Mention them.

You can interview them, include them in a round-up, source their articles, or quote them in a post. The likelihood of influencers sharing or linking to content where they are mentioned is drastically better than any other tactic and one of the most effective ways to enlist their support.

Don’t blog alone. Leverage your blogger community and reap the benefits.
