Two Gmail features roll out to all users, no longer in beta

Two Gmail lab features are now out

The two Gmail features that have been testing in the “Gmail Labs” as an optional feature for users are “Don’t forget Bob” (or “What about Bob?” as I have been calling it) and “Got the wrong Bob?” These features aim to correct sending email to the wrong people or missing some people.

Two examples of how these features have worked for me:

  1. This afternoon, I hit “reply” to Hoyt at CondoDomain letting him know that we had written about their company but I didn’t see he had copied Anthony on our last email, but Gmail said “Also include: Anthony” and with one click I cc’d him in on the email. Good catch, Gmail!.
  2. The other day I was composing an email to AG editorial columnist Melissa Zavala who I write to frequently, but in a rush, I accidentally typed “Melis,” saw her name, tabbed through and thought I had selected her, but I accidentally selected a girlfriend from high school who I haven’t emailed with in six years. Gmail said “Did you mean Melissa Zavala?” because I email her frequently. Good catch, Gmail!

Gmail is slowly saving people like me from myself. I proof all of my emails, and I DO catch these errors, but I love that Gmail is saving me time by catching the errors before I have to bat an eye! The timing is perfect and Canadians who are about to be subject to a $1 million fine for unsolicited emails.

Agreed, we love it. The only thing I'm a little annoyed at is that it learns who you frequently group and automatically suggests other people to CC… I would prefer that it only offer people that were previously attached to the email thread so it's not distracting.
