Twitter has left many users upset and uncomfortable with some of their recent changes including talks about increased character count, the new heart that took the place of the star, and a randomized timeline. Analysts and professionals everywhere have even predicted troubling times ahead for the once extremely popular social media network.
That said, evidence suggests that Twitter has less to worry about than we think.
Three reasons to stick with Twitter
Here are three major reasons despite our distaste, and predictions that Twitter still has the opportunity to be successfully optimized and leveraged for your business.
- Twitter is still in the top 5 most actively used networks: Twitter may be experiencing what some of us consider growth problems, but that hasn’t prevented the platform from competing with other top social media networks. In fact, according to a study by globalwebindex Twitter is still ahead In usage by 3%, of the booming photo sharing network, Instagram. It may have fallen behind other competitors like Facebook, Youtube, and Google, but it is still an effective platform to reach users.
- Half of Twitters User Access the platform on a Daily Basis: Facebook is the leader in usage frequency however Twitter also maintains an admirable engagement rate. Globalwebindex reports that around half of its users log in at least once a day, while 3 in 4 use the platform weekly. This isn’t bad compared to other fast growing networks like Pintrest who’s active users say they are logging on less than once a week.
- Twitter has twice as many visitors as active users: Because Twitter is a publilc paltofrm, it’s easy for non-members to visit the website and access content without logging in. Therefore it is just as much important to understand the amount of visitors Twitter reaches, as it is users that log in. Thanks to Globalwebindex, we see that globally 42% of adult internet users have visited Twitter for something in one month. In the US alone 36% of adults have visited the platform one way or another. This mean’s Twitter’s audience successfully reaches a market of people who are visitors and members, opposed to exclusively reaching just members.
So before you go throwing your entire Twitter strategy to the wayside, realize that the platform is still an extremely effective and far reaching marketing tool. I wouldn’t say depend solely on Twitter for your success. but I also wouldn’t say that about any of the other platforms either. Just be sure not to be blinded by the changes and current growth issues; Twitter is still a popular social media network, with a large active following that checks in daily.
